Evan Rachel Copse attended the premire of The Wrestler

As Christmas quickly approaches, its great to see celebrities remembering the less fortunate. And yesterday Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott were spotted doing their part to help out this holiday season.
The Beverly Hills 90210 babe and her hunky hubby busied themselves at a Woodland Hills, California Target store, picking up items for ten families as part of the Adopt a Family Foundation.

The Wrestler: LA Premiere Brings Out Evan Rachel wood-land

The last time I went to California was an extremely quick trip for an exit interview and associated junks at Collab. I went there carrying only my laptop and came back the next day with no baggage (in all senses of the word)

This time around, being a far more exciting trip, I feel like I'm packing for a 3 day sojourn to a deserted island.

What do you need for 3 days away from normal life?
(and with a slew of papers due the following week)

x Ulysses, Joyce
x Sentimental Education, Flaubert
x Short Works of Dostoevsky, Himself
x Nightwood, Djuna Barnes
x Selected Critical Essays, Oscar Wilde
x printout of On style, Susan Sontag
x 3 class notebooks, 1 pen
x ipod micro, containing selections of:
sam cooke, otis redding, liz phair (the first 2 albums),
yo-yo ma (cello suites), other artists i'm not ready to confess
an affinity towards etc.
x 2 pairs pants, 2 shirts, 1 nice shirt, plenty o' undergarments

^^^ and on top of all this, add:

x laptop, phone, chargers etc
x stickers for baby girl hayden
x printout of iteniary, barcoded for "quick check in"
x wallet + keys, light weather jacket

and i'm even backing up my laptop for the first time in a year or so.

(hopefully this doesn't jinx anything)

I basically feel like I'm packing far too much, yet it doesn't *look* like much till you start listing it all out.

Sam Hailey Designs - Monday Super Steal More Rehearsal Pictures

Even though Brett's been a cutter owner for just a few months, I think you'll agree that she's become very skilled with her Pazzles! One thing I like about Brett is that she's never afraid to take on a challenge and try something new! Her first Creative Team project is a great Thanksgiving layout that she did with my Frame-A-Page Thanksgiving file. She did a photo collage in the middle and mounted it on 12x12 paper for her scrapbook! I can't wait to see what else Brett comes up with! I'm so glad she's joined the team!

I've been dying to announce Brett and I'm so glad I had the chance to do that this week! I can't believe the craziness that's been going on! It seems like every day there's something unexpected.

Take, for example, Tuesday... let me preface this by saying that our son Trevor started his new job this week and we've been sharing a car until he can get something of his own. On Tuesday I needed the car to take Samantha to school try to get some errands run. So, I decided to take Trevor to work. It's about a 40 minute drive to his office, but it was either that or walk wherever we needed to go. And I've been taking turns with a neighbor taking our girls to school since it's dark and cold when the bus comes. Anyway, that morning things were going just fine. I dropped the girls off at school and Trevor off at work in plenty of time for both of them. On my way to the freeway from his office building, there was a big road construction project going on. The lane was narrow and I hit a ginormous pothole on the edge of the road right before getting onto the freeway. What do you know, a mile or so down the road my card started making a horrible noise. Yup! A flat tire! I had to drive about 100 feet or so to a safe place by an onramp to pull off. I got out and figured out how to use the jack and get the tire changed. Can you believe, not a single person stopped to offer assistance. In fact, a road work truck pulled up right beside me and a guy got out and did something with a road sign for about 10 minutes and then got back in his truck and left, while totally ignoring me the entire time. He didn't even make eye contact and I was probably close enough to hear him whisper if it wasn't for all the traffic noise whizzing by me. All this time I had Hailey in the back seat being ever so patient. It took me a good 30 minutes to get the tire changed. I guess at least I can say that I'm capable of changing a tire! It's been a long time since my Dad taught me how! Then I had to drive home with the "donut" tire on. I dropped Hailey off at a friends house and went in search of a new tire. They are pretty new tires so I just need the one tire, but wouldn't you know it's some brand that most tire shops don't carry. I finally found one that could get it delivered from their warehouse that afternoon, so I had to go back up to Tucson at 5:00. The only good thing about the day was Victor took pity on me and decided we should go out to dinner since Chili's was right by the tire shop. He picked Trevor up and met us there for dinner. At least I didn't have to cook! I'm glad that ordeal is past me now. And I'm happy to say that I managed not to shed a tear over the event although it was pretty close a couple of times.

Here's hoping that the rest of the day's leading up to Christmas are much less eventful! My parents are coming for a week or so for Christmas and we can hardly wait!

Have a wonderful day everyone! Thanks for playing.

Gutierrez in the Box | Bleeding Blue and Teal

(If you dont get the Everett reference, see here)
Gutierrez is going to be great in center field.  Hell be such an asset that even if he shows zero improvement at the plate hell still be one of the more valuable position players that we have.  However, if he can start hitting a bit more then hell become the Adrian Beltre of the outfield, minus the paycheck.
After being called a breakout candidate by many last Spring Training, Gutierrez struggled mightily, batting just .210 and sporting an embarrassing .586 OPS at the trading deadline.   Undoubtedly motivated by the strong performances by Francisco and Choo, and the possibility of losing additional playing time, Gutierrez turned it up a notch from then until the end of the season, hitting a solid .313/.389/.476 including half his home runs and doubles over his final 47 games.
Over the same span, the only Mariner to outperform Gutierrez offensively was Raul Ibanez, who was on an absolute tear down the stretch.  That said, Ibanez cant exactly claim to have the defensive impact that Gutierrez has.  Its feasible that from August 1st until the end of the season Gutierrez was more valuable than any Seattle Mariners position player.  Cases can be made for Ibanez and Beltre, but its still saying something about the finish that Gutierrez had.
If that last third of the season was any indication of what kind of offensive upside Gutierrez is storing, Seattle may gotten the best player in the deal by a large margin. Even if he hits closer to his more realistic 2008 ZIPs projection of .268/.332/.422, hes still an above average center fielder on both sides of the ball.
The important thing to remember is that Gutierrez isnt just a defensive wizard.  People look at his 2008 line of .248/.307/.383 and think hes an all-defense, no-offense player, but those overall numbers were destroyed by the tough start.  He hit just .210/.257/.329 over his first 87 games.  Theres no way that this guy is that bad.  He was heralded as a potential 5-tool player as a prospect.  So far, only the defensive tools have consistently shown themselves at the MLB level, but you should remember that he hasnt yet entered into his physical prime, nor has he been given the opportunity to log a full seasons worth of plate appearances.  He topped out at 319 last season, but should head up to the plate almost twice as many times in 2009.  Ive talked to some Cleveland Indians bloggers and fans and most believe that Gutierrez can explode if he gets consistent playing time and his natural defensive position back.  Thats exactly what Seattle is going to do for him.
While he struggled in 2008 compared to 2006 and 2007, there are reasons to believe that hes on the verge of breaking out.  This past season he started evening up his lefty/righty splits, he brought his strikeout percentage way down, bumped his line drive percentage up a bit, became more selective at the plate and made better contact when he swung.  He is improving aspects of his game, and if he puts them all together it could be a beautiful sight.
For 2009, Bill James projects a .271/.329/.428 line for Gutierrez over 398 plate appearances, Marcel has him at .264/.321/.414 over 450, and ZIPs predicts .258/.321/.400 over 411.
I think that Gutierrez will smoke the ZIPs projection, and at very least fall somewhere between Bill James and Marcel, assuming he plays everyday, registering between 550 and 600 plate appearances.  He could do a lot more.  Last season he could have hit 15 homers despite his struggles had he gotten regular playing time.  He can be a 20 homer threat as early as next year.
Not very many people are talking about this guys offense, but I think were going to have a very special player reveal himself over the next couple seasons.

The Quotidian Dish | By Andrew Sullivan (December 13, 2008) - The Logo

I think it's worth mentioning that a large part of the election campaign was fought over just this issue. Obama presented himself as a genuinely pragmatic politician who was not primarly concerned with ideology, but with what would work, and that he could appeal across ideological divides to come to agreements on what worked that would be good for the country.
McCain and many conservatives were accusing Obama of presenting a false facade, that he was actually a socialist, a communist, a terrorist, a leftist ideologue who was hiding his real ideological extremism behind this fake veneer of pragmatism, and that once elected he would show his true colors, and try to turn the country into a Muslim, socialist paradise for Bill Ayers and al Qaeda terrorists.
The electorate rejected McCain’s version of Obama, and accepted Obama’s own self-description. Those who are surprised by Obama’s appointments thus far are those who for some reason mistakenly believed in McCain’s criticism.

Eiger Solo is a documentary of the first British solo ascent of the Eiger North Face. Welsh mountaineer Eric Jones ultimate dream was to climb the notorious North Face of the Eiger, alone. The film also skillfully blends in expertly done reconstructions of the dramatic epics and tragic history of the Eiger North Face: the pioneering attempt by Sedlmeyer and Mehringer; the epic rescu of Tony Kurz; Harrer and Heckmairs first ascent. The climax of the film recreates John Harlins 5,000 ft fall during the historic winter ascent of the Eiger Direct in 1966. Filming Eric Jones on his solo climb was almost as great a challenge to cameraman and filmmaker Leo Dickinson, who had to be lowered from a helicopter to Death Bivouac, high on the mountain to capture Erics progress on film. This film also contains rare interviews with Heinrich Harrer, Anderl Heckmair, Don Whillans and Adolf Rubi. Eiger Solo is probably the best of its genre on the subject and thoroughly deserves to be! regarded as a masterpiece of a mountaineering film, it will thrill and inspire both serious climbers and armchair mountaineers alike.

Excluding Interview: Kevin Burns Talks Eye-Poke Fizzle and

The first meeting between Kevin Burns and Anthony Johnson was marred by an accidental eye poke that halted the bout midway through the third round. It was an unsatisfying end for both men, as Johnson would need surgery for a damaged retina and Burns found himself with a victory that he couldn't really enjoy.
As the two prepare for a rematch to settle the score at Saturday nights Ultimate Fighter Finale, Burns talks with us about his decision to fight with the injured hand, his perspective on the eye pokes, and what he thinks of the attention the strange bout has brought upon himself and Johnson.
Check back later today for an interview with Johnson, who gives his often very different perspective on the events of that night.
CagePotato.com: Thanks for talking with me, Kevin. Coming into this rematch, how do you mentally approach a fight like this, under these strange circumstances?
Mentally Im approaching it like I would any other fight. Ive been in the cage with Anthony so I kind of know what to expect, I know what hes going to bring to the table. Other than from a game plan prospective, Im not approaching it any differently. Now I can utilize all of my standup skills. Now that my hands 100% I can actually throw a left jab, a left hook, things that I havent been able to do. That may make things a little different for him, but it will be good for me.
Tell me about the situation with the hand. What happened to it?
I broke my hand three times in sixteen months. The bone wasnt completely fused, but if it was any other person doing normal things, not doing what we do, you probably wouldnt notice it. I can lift weights, I can do pretty much anything, with the exception of hitting something solid. If I had hit something solid at that point, I had about a 95% chance that the bone would have fractured back through and I would have been back to square one.
So instead of delaying my fighting career I decided to take a page out of Bas Ruttens book in the old Pancrase days in Japan and use palm strikes. They did it successfully, so I figured why cant I? I threw a lot of successful palm strikes earlier in the fight. I couldnt throw a closed jab, so I had to use that. Unfortunately my finger went into his eye in that last palm strike that I threw in the third round.
The one in the third round ended it, but it seemed like there were several other pokes leading up to that one. Where you aware of those, and did you feel it when it happened the last time.

Report: Gossip Damsel Spinoff to Lineament Young Rufus Lily - Gossip

The Rufus-as-a-young-rocker concept was never meant as a series, but rather was a pitch for the show's upcoming Verizon-sponsored webisode series.
And as executive producer Josh Schwartz first revealed to me a little while back, that concept was scrapped in favor of the upcoming Dorota webisodes.
Gossip Girl spinoff rumors are nothing new.
There was talk last season that Taylor Momsen's Little Jenny Humphrey might be getting a series of her own called The It Girl, but that was also debunked by Schwartz this summer.
According to insider sources, the CW certainly would like to build on the success of its marquee series, but for now, Gossip Girl producers want to focus on maintaining the high-quality Upper East Side stories as we know them now.

MormonTimes - Thomas Kane: A interceder for Mormons in D.C

I didn't feel like doing a recap, so here's someone elses -ed.]
Last nights game against the Knicks was particularly confounding to me, so I decided to put some stuff out there to see if anyone else is thinking the same things.
If Gray is going to start, at least play more than the first 5 minutes of each half. Especially against a team as small as the Knicks. Its like the beginning of the season all over again with Sefalosha. Youre starting someone just because they are tall, not because they give you any real advantages.
Until the end of the game, there seemed to be little to no strategy at all. It seems VDN was content with the just keep it close then give the ball to Rose at the end strategy. Which is no real strategy at all. It wasnt until the fourth quarter they realized that hey, no one on the team can guard Drew Gooden in the post. After they started doing that a strange thing happened; New York doubled him. Then it was just a matter of moving to ball to the open shooter. Wow, this basketball stuff is pretty easy when you actually sit and think about it.
I am still amazed that it took until the half for the Bulls coaches to realize what the Knicks offensive (and defensive) game plan was when Im sure everyone else noticed early in the first half. The Knick used the pick and roll and the Bulls switching defense to make Rose guard bigger players in the post. Since the Knicks dont play defense, this was the closest thing they had to a defensive game plan, since they were hoping to wear Rose out of put him in foul trouble.
In a game that would have played to their strengths and minimized their weaknesses, Sefalosha and Thomas did not play a single second. I thought Noah was the one who was in the doghouse, not Thomas. Which brings me to my next point.
In my estimation, the Bulls are about 11 players deep. The Knicks only have seven players that are physically able to play. The Knicks were tired at the end of the game, imagine if we had went more than 8 players deep and ran a court press. The Knicks would have been gassed by the third quarter.
Starting and/or playing certain players because of perceived matchups should only be done sparingly. VDN has been doing this all season and it needs to stop. You win games by enforcing your will upon the other team, by making them put other players in to counter the mismatches that your players have caused and making the other team play the way that you want. You usually establish this at the beginning of the game. So if you play to take advantage of the fact that you have smaller and more athletic players at most positions; then starting someone who has the size and mobility of a semi is counter-productive.
How long is it going to take before the players realize that passing the ball to teammates makes it easier to score and wears out the defense. As a by-product, making a team play hard on defense makes them lethargic on offense.
s all I have for now, you may now return to your regularly scheduled program.

The Case For Caroline? - Ross Douthat

Asked to describe himself in three words, the classics concentrator-cum-Undergraduate Council presidential candidate takes a few moments of reflection and replies, "A human being." Roger G. Waite '10-'11 offered only a few words more, "To the best of my knowledge, I am a human being." Then, he leaned back in his chair, silent.

A stereotypical UC presidential candidate he is not, Waite insists. Dressed in an argyle sweater and tie and sporting a full beard that he described as unkempt, Waite is intent on differentiating himself from the system that he and his running mate Alexandra A. Petri '10 hope to overthrow.

... The Waite-Petri campaign is adopting an age-old tradition of using their platform to advocate for the abolition of the Council. There is one caveat, however. "We're going to invite a member of the House of Hapsburg to rule the student body indefinitely instead," Waite says.

"I think that a member of the Royal Family would be in a much stronger position to negotiate with the administration and faculty," he explains. "It's much easier for Harvard to blow off a group of self-important undergrads than it is the House of Hapsburg."

Digging into his jacket pocket, Waite presents a copy of "The Charter of 1650," the document that established the mission and governing structure of the University.

"It says nothing of student governance and nothing about this nonsense of an Undergrad Council," he says.

This plan is part of the campaign's broader goal of returning Harvard to its "founding principles."

Despite the fact that no American university has ever established a hereditary monarchy to rule over the student body, Waite says that this is certainly not an obstacle.

"Harvard is always on the forefront of change. We can set an example," he says.

andrea parker to climb five volcanoes « wears the trousers periodical pamphlet

Its fair to say that the music industrys relationship with pop reached its peak just over 10 years ago. Music videos were nothing without a budget of a good £10,000 or more. Singles were a luscious, physical thing with posters, postcards and more non-album tracks than a fan could ever wish for. The charts actually stood for something and were still being fronted by Top Of The Pops, which anyone under the age of 16 watched religiously. And the icons of our musical affections were untouchable, carefully guarded objects that were forever outside a mere fans reach.
Nowadays, its a very different story. New acts have to shout the loudest on social networking websites to be heard, and personally spam thousands of potential listeners before any industry mogul or spin doctor considers going near them. If they dont, then its fuck em, we dont need them, and off they go to try it themselves. Probably penniless, but at least they can actually meet their listeners face to face, and forever tell themselves that they were keeping it real. What is unusual, though, is to meet an artist whos had firsthand experience in all the above. Its even rarer to meet an artist whos had firsthand experience in all this, but is still actively working and producing new music for a devoted fanbase whos been with them every step of the way.
Back in 1996, a petite, striking and totally fearsome young woman slouched in a giant rotating dentists chair cooing out the seductive 6 Underground, then sat on a toilet in a giant fur coat blasting out Spin Spin Sugar. She was tattooed, pierced and sported daring undercuts on her head, both terrorising and seducing with a single glance down a camera lens. For a time, she was Top Of The Pops, NME, Q. She headlined festivals across Europe, and even soundtracked the love scene between Val Kilmer and Elizabeth Shue in blockbuster movie The Saint.
For some, these are their last memories of Kelli Ali, former lead singer of 90s trip-rock indie darlings the Sneaker Pimps before she was asked to leave in 1997 so the band could continue without any oestrogen getting in the way of their supposed cause (and thus cutting off their noses to spite their faces in the long run). There is a hell of a lot more to Kelli than just this though. The post-Pimps years have been quite a journey, the ins and outs of which we quickly get down to after swapping a mutual Brummie-twanged as we meet at Rough Trade East for a chat and a cuppa.

So I night-weaned Lily.

She was feeding every hour or so and I was feeling utterly exhausted and so I decided that things just had to change. The weird thing is that it really wasn't a terrible experience. She did wake up a lot on the first night and she did tearfully ask for milk, but she also settled very quickly in my arms and went back to sleep once I rocked her and sang to her. What seemed to matter was that she could chose the song.

The second night was a little harder - only in that she was awake from 12:00-2:30am. She wasn't crying or upset for most of that time mind you. She was mostly trying to go to sleep, but she was finding it really difficult and kept asking me to sing "Hush Little Baby" over and over and over again. I thought that my voice was going to give out and every time she asked I kept thinking "this is the last time that I'll physically be able to sing, after that I am going to have to do something else." But the strange thing was that each and every time I found that I was able to sing and then, finally, she was able to go to sleep.

On the third night she woke at 2am and 4am. She did ask for milk, but quickly changed her mind and asked for a "mama cuddle" when I reminded her that there was "no milk until the morning". Both times she was awake for a total of about 2 minutes. She didn't need me to rock her or even sing. It was amazing.

The next few nights were pretty much the same - 2am and 4am, asked for milk, settled quickly for a cuddle and then back to sleep.

Last night was night eleven and for the last few nights she has either slept through or woken only once and gone back to sleep without anything more than a stroke of the head or a side-by-side snuggle. She isn't waking up desperate for milk in the morning either. She seems quite happy to chat about other things first and then will say (calmly) "other side" as though she is just continuing her evening feed with no interruption.

I am just so proud of her.

Sadly I must admit that I am not feeling any better for this shockingly successful process. If anything I feel worse.

I am not sure why this is. I think that part of it is because my body is using the extra sleep to tell me just how exhausted I am and to have a little bit of a collapse on me. Another part of it may be that Lily has picked up several more feeds during the day to make up for the ones that she is missing out on at night (AKA she is feeding constantly) and so I am feel quite drained and a little suffocated.

Aiden - Incubus dissection (2005)

I stole this from another mom on CafeMom. Many of our blogs have newly diagnosed moms searching for answers and stumble upon us, so I encourage you to share this also.

If you or someone you know has a child with Down syndrome we're here to help. Dealing with something of this magnitude can literally change every aspect of someone's life and those around them. It's like a whirlwind of emotions sweeping across you day in and day out. We understand that turning to a friend or family member can sometimes be hard when it has to do with your child. So, we're here to pass along some great information about coping with a child who has Down syndrome.

Dealing with the Emotions

When it comes to an issue like Down syndrome, the best thing to do is seek out experts. They can give you the proper education on what Down syndrome is and what you can do to deal with it. Most importantly, all the myths will be explained. For instance if you've heard about your child possibly having to go to a special school it's not true. Think they'll have to be put in an institution when they get older? Not true. There are many misconceptions related to Down syndrome so be sure to keep an open mind about the situation.

Get Into Support Groups

This is one of the hardest decisions to make for any family dealing with Down syndrome. Why? Well, if your doctor has given you a pre-diagnosis from tests and analysis it's easy to go into denial. We aren't telling you this to upset you in any way, but the realization is that it's very common. When you first go to a support group there is a sense that you are giving in to all the speculation and admitting your child has Down syndrome. However, this is a crucial step for anyone wanting better ways to cope.

Support groups can offer you the opportunity to converse and build relationships with others who understand what you are dealing with on a daily basis. Discussions will revolve around different actions you can take to put your mind at ease. There are also many groups that pass around phone numbers. This way if you are having a tough day you can call someone and explain your situation. They may be able to give you sound advice on what routes to take to make it better.

There are several benefits to being involved with support groups. In the end you will make several new friends built around your children and their future. You never know, your child may grow up having several friends that come from the support groups as well. While things may be different in society for them, having others by their side in the future will be a monumental accomplishment.

Explaining the Situation to Your Family

When it's all said and done family members are the most difficult to tell. While they will want to support you whole heartedly, the lack of knowledge about Down syndrome can be hard for you to explain to them. It's very common for several questions to be thrust your way and all this does is create more stress on you. Answering the same things over and over again becomes overwhelming and it's not good for your current situation.

One of the best ways to handle family members is by telling them you don't want to talk about it. In addition, be sure to tell them why. If they are planning to learn more about Down syndrome to help you then offer them places to go for information. If you're up to it ask them to go along with you to a support group meeting. This way they can get a feel for what others have been dealing with for years.

The Most Important Coping Method

If you take one thing from this article, just remember to have patience. Don't sell you or your child short on all the things that life has to offer. Remember that there are going to be frustrating days ahead, but nothing is impossible. You have a loving child right there to hold, teach, and be a parent to forever. The only difference is you have to take a different route to get there. We wish you the best of luck and hope you pass along this information to anyone that needs it. They'll thank you for it later.

Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati, who was sworn in Wednesday as Pennsylvanias 31st lieutenant governor, will address the graduating Class of 2009 at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford next spring.

Scarnati, who was recently elected to his third term in the Senate as the representative from the 25th District, will deliver the keynote address during commencement exercises at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, in the Sport Fitness Center on the Pitt-Bradford campus.

Senator Scarnati has emerged as one of the most highly respected public officials in the commonwealth, said Dr. Livingston Alexander, Pitt-Bradford president, and were grateful that he has agreed to address our graduates at the 2009 commencement.

Senator Scarnati has much to share with our graduating students as they seek to find their way in a complex world, Alexander continued. He exemplifies the values of hard work, perseverance, and never giving up. His remarkable story is one our students need to hear.

Scarnati, R-Brockway, was sworn in as lieutenant governor during a private ceremony in Harrisburg on Wednesday, Dec. 3, by Superior Court Judge John M. Cleland of Kane. Scarnati, 46, assumed the lieutenant governors duties after the death of Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll on Nov. 12.

As lieutenant governor, Scarnati will be second in line to Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell, who was Pitt-Bradfords commencement speaker in 2007. In his new role, Scarnatis primary responsibilities will be presiding over the Senate and serving as chairman of the Board of Pardons, which each month reviews the cases of convicted criminals seeking clemency for their sentences.

As the senator from the 25th District, Scarnati represents the biggest Senatorial district Cameron, Elk, Jefferson, McKean, Potter and Tioga counties, along with parts of Clearfield and Warren counties. After serving six years in the Senate, he was sworn in as President Pro Tempore, the third-highest constitutional office in the state, on Jan. 2, 2007, and has taken on issues ranging from reducing taxes to cutting the cost of government in the state.

Joe Scarnati is my kind of person, said Minority Leader Robert J. Mellow, D-Lackawanna. Very reasonable, a moderate, not an overly partisan person, and he wants to get the job done.

Scarnati got his start in politics in 1986 when he was elected to the Brockway Borough Council. At that time, he was also running the family restaurant in Brockway. He later became chairman of the Jefferson County Republican Party.

He was first elected to the Senate in 2000, defeating incumbent Sen. William Slocum. For two years, Scarnati served as chairman of the Labor and Industry Committee. He also served as Majority Deputy Whip from July 2005 to February 2006 and Majority Policy Committee Chairman from February to November in 2006.

He holds a degree in business administration from Penn State Universitys DuBois Campus.

Scarnati has served as an ex-officio member of Pitt-Bradfords Advisory Board since being elected to the Senate. He is also a past president of the Jefferson County Development Council, a member of the Horton Sportsmen Club, the National Rifle Association, the Gunowners of America and St. Tobias Church.

I think that Senator Scarnati will enjoy getting to know our bright and talented students, Alexander said, and Im sure hell be pleased that many of our graduates plan to live and work in the region and contribute to the long term health and vitality of its various communities.
